Fiestas de la Virgen de Gracia (Bajada and Novena)

Once a year the Virgen de Gracia leaves her hermitage on the hill above Archidona and is carried down to the Parroquia de Santa Ana, where she stays for a nine-day novena. The bajada itself draws crowds along the route into the old town, with bearers, brass bands and the usual mix of devotion and street atmosphere.

For the following nine days, the church holds evening novena masses and the casco histórico fills with the stalls, music and family activity that come with any patron saint fiesta. The Virgen returns to her sanctuary at the end of the novena in a separate procession (the subida) on 11 September.
